The Daily Dark

" We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." Oscar Wilde Let thu be welcomed to The Daily Dark, We live in a world of dark happenings, where the shadows dance without our knowledge of it. Art is the light that shines over us, either to show us the true nature of the shadows or to help us dance with them. Art is what makes the darkness of everyday life brighter-this blog is an entrance to what art is for me. I'm 19, a mexican studying communications in Spain in love with art, vampires and candy. Hope you enjoy my blog, if not, drop dead-sooner or later you'll have to so take no offense. love, M.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari  (1920) is one of the first twisted ended horror films. Born in an era of post-war fears and feelings, it is bathed in social criticism. Filmed in black and white this german expressionist  film questions the very nature of  what is mental sanity. Presented as a recollection, it tells the tale of Dr. Caligari and Cesare, a man who has been sleeping for 23 years. The Dr. announces  Cesare at a local fair, declaring that he can predict the future-their act coincides with a series of local murders. ” Who ever questions Cesare about his future is bound to die.” For when he is asked by Alan about his future, he is answered by a not far away death.  When Alan dies, a soon to be wedded couple decides to investigate the relationship between Caligari and the blood shed. One night the girl is kidnaped by the somnambulist-who failed to kill her because of her beautiful face. What happens next? only viewers can discover that. The angles, scenery and music have been constantly commented on. Not only do the arts converge in this movie but they  bleed their influence into the art world  of today. Men such as Tim Burton, Rob Zombie and Bauhaus have paid their tribute to the Dr.  This movie is a most see for all of those souls hungry for art and moral questioning-for those who are not satisfied with the definitions of books given to society. To both lovers of horror and romantic films. For what is Cesere but a zombie like Romeo?
